The definition of Turkish food today is what is made by Turks. These dishes could be inspired from Greeks, Persians or whatever but they are distinctly Turkish in their execution, presentation and flavor.

71... greekturkish/laugh.gif That's awesome.

i disagree mate , the name doesnt have to do with the preparation , presentation and cooking of a meal . There have been people and nation in this part of the world long before greeks or turks came . This particular dinner IMHO is persian , they are known to combine rice with anything they have available.

BTW how do you like the rice in it , me very soft and juicy and only yalanci . and i DEMAND from the turkish lot in here greekturkish/laugh.gif to name me a restaurant in IST. with the most awesome yalanci

BTW 71 wasnt funny dude , i was turned blue greekturkish/fiddle.gif

Couldn't agree more about the rice though, it has to be very soft and very juicy. I like to dip the dolmas in cold fresh fatty yoghurt (greek or turkish) and then have my way with them...

i like dolma with meat more than dolma that cooked with olive oil. and i think cabbage is better than grape leafs for much eatings because after too much eating test of grape leafs over comes to pilav.

my favorite is midye. when i am drunk, i can eat them till i get sick. my record is 65.

That is funny mate greekturkish/bluebiggrin.gif.

Guilty of this myself.

Especially once in particular in Taksim square after a night-out, had about a dozen in dozen seconds greekturkish/Victory.gif.

The mideci was like greekturkish/eek.gif ....... greekturkish/laugh.gif.

Those guys make a killing out of the back of efes.

You have to be careful where you have them though.

I saw a program on Turkish tv about it once greekturkish/eeps.gif. They get loads of people gathered in a basement filling them up at a constant pace.

PS They even have mideciz outside of the posh clubs in Kurucesme and Etiler.

Nice after-grub indeed...

How much do they go for now?

i can't count them, i can't even speak when i eat midye. midye sellers always open new one before i finish the one in my mounth. at the end seller count the garbage and tell the number.

Believe it or not, Dookie is greek and has (although unworthy) inherited taste buds designed to savor the sweet flavors of our region.

However, the dish has been native to the Near East and East Mediterranean—especially Greece—since ancient times.[1] Indeed, there exist pictures of Byzantine Greeks preparing shish kebabs and such food is attested in Ancient Greece as early as 8th century BCE (archaic period) in Homer's Iliad [7] and Odyssey[6] and in classical Greece, amongst others in the works of Aristophanes[8], Xenophon[9] and Aristotle [10].

in a rare occasion it is actually 'a bitter pill' for you rather than something else to swallow(same article):

QUOTE
Döner kebab, literally "rotating kebab" in Turkish, is sliced lamb, beef or chicken, slowly roasted on a vertical rotating spit. It is similar to gyros and shawarma. The Middle Eastern shawarma, Mexican tacos al pastor and greek gyros are all derived from the Turkish döner kebab which was invented in Bursa in the 19th century.[citation needed] Döner kebab is most popularly served in pita bread, as it is best known, with salad, but is also served in a dish with a salad and bread or French fries on the side, or used for Turkish pizzas called pide or "kebabpizza". Take-out döner kebab or shawarma restaurants are common in many parts of Europe. Döner kebab is said to be the best-selling fast food in Germany and Poland[citation needed] as well as being popular in many other European countries, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.

QUOTE
Shish kebab (Turkish: şiş kebap) is a dish consisting of meat threaded on a skewer, and grilled. Any kind of meat may be used, small cubes of meat, fruit or vegetables are often threaded on the skewer as well. Typical vegetables include eggplant, tomato, bell pepper, onions, and mushrooms.  Shish kebab literally means 'skewered grilled-meat' in Turkish. It was made in the Ottoman Empire and was served to Sultans in those days. Nowadays it can be found in nearly every restaurant in Turkey, and it is very popular around the world.  In most dialects of North American English, the word kebab usually refers to shish kebab.

greekturkish/tiphat.gif

Notice which language too and where it was invented.

You know what profisgas? You are such a salak and childish little shit. Thank you for proving to everyone else my sentiments. greekturkish/beerchug.gif

You turn this thread which is a celebration of good food into something like this greekturkish/clap.gif.

And you claim to hate nationalists LOL!

PS DN I was just winding you up greekturkish/laugh.gif. Since you hate Turks so much why eat something that looks very Turkish greekturkish/confused.gif.

Anyways back to the subject(again I have to do the reverting) I love kebabs in Indian restaurants as an appetizer:
