Two Greek Cypriots held for nationalist graffiti in north

TWO Greek Cypriots were arrested on Tuesday in the occupied areas for spraying the word ‘ELLAS’ (Greece) on sign posts and walls in Rizokarpaso village.

The two men, named by the Turkish Cypriot authorities as 28-year-old Demetris Georgiou and Georgios Vanezos, 26, were yesterday taken to ‘court’ in the north, where they were ordered to pay €500 each and 2,000 Turkish lira as a guarantee before being released.

Georgiou and Vanezos had visited the occupied areas on Tuesday morning. They were caught and detained overnight as they attempted to return to the free areas.

What were they charged with? Don't tell me that there is a law in the north that forbids people writing pro Greek slogans? With almost all Turkish population in the north, what are they afraid of?

I would have sprayed "turkkan loves lesbians" or "Turkkan waz here" greekturkish/blissysmile.gif

<edit>sorry forgot this: "Give Boomer his lemon tree back, you cunts!" greekturkish/crossfingers.gif

Everyone lets say it together, "revenue raising"

What a joke! greekturkish/gives.gif

Not long ago I learned that the Turks have on a mountain facing the Armenian border an imprinted slogan that says something like: "How happy amd I to be Turkish".

They have similar mountain graffiti in areas where Turkish Kurds live and of course in Cyprus where the North gloats in the direction of Greek Cypriots:

I am sure the Turkish Cypriots knowing their usual hypocrisy with crusty fingers raised will say: "See the Greeks how they are, we are vindicated."

And the self effacing Greek Cypriots: "We are so sorry, I will wash your crusty finger, brother."

There is a law that forbigs you to desecrate goverment and private property, which includes graffiti without consent. The wankers got what they deserved (probably just over half their salary gone if their on minimum wage).

English School defaced

Greek nationalist graffiti was found yesterday sprawled on the old building of the English School, Nicosia.

Slogans included anti-AKEL slogans and ‘E.S. is Greek’. Insults were also sprayed next to the name Antonis Antoniou, the same name as one of the school’s economics teacher who is known for his pro-rapprochement political position.
The perpetrators also signed the graffiti ‘by ESL08’, meaning English School leavers 2008.

No one from the school was available for comment with the school still closed for the Easter holidays.

The school has been the site of bi-communal trouble in the recent past, when a gang of hooded pupils from surrounding state schools attacked five Turkish Cypriot pupils on November 22 2006.

Graffiti had also appeared in the run-up to the 2004 referendum, this time directed at leavers who were in favour of the Annan Plan.
