If we are discussing turkey, given the vast christian population pre world war 1, how exactly do you expect us to keep all these abandoned churches in good order and why exactly should we when 99% of the country is not christian? Yes the famous one obviously have some historic value but most scattered around anatolia dont. Second, even if we were to accept the argument that they should all have been kept in good condition, where exactly will a state like turkey which had dire economic problems find the money from? The way you present this issue is as if its only churches that have been left derilict and not most historic structures be they muslim or christian. In my opinion there is seriously far more important issues for turkey to spend its budget on such as her healthcare system or energy needs.

If we were only talking about an abandoned church in a small village of Mugla with 200 residents & no Christians left, you would be right.

The important things are (1) those of historical value are well-preserved, (2) remaining Christians have their churches intact & can freely use them. Plus, it isn't too expensive to keep them in good condition, it can even be handled locally. Think about the efforts Ministry of Culture expanded to restore the Mostar Bridge.

The events like that of Sept. 1955 should be acknowledged as well. I don't think any of the looters, then, cared about the 2 points above. So yes, Turkey's record with its churches and its Christian minority is bad. The road to improving it starts with acknowledging the situation, thus I don't like to produce excuses. Many of us still keep producing excuses for Madimak, instead of just saying "damn this thing, damn those who did it!".

Turkey has far more important problems, yes. The core of the various minority problems, though, are not financial.
