Turkish Navy is going to procure Mk41 Tactical VLS launching systems for:

2 x Barbaros (Track IIA) Class (modernization kits)
2 x Salihreis (Track IIB) Class (new installation)
4 x Gabya (FFG-7) Class (new installation)

Overall, in the mid-term Turkish Navy will have 8 Mk41 Baseline VII equipped FFG's out of 18 (4 x MEKO 200 Track I, 4 x MEKO 200 Track II, 8+2 FFG-7's).

Right, thanks for the heads up.

copy-paste:

Barbaros class (MEKO 200 Track IIA, 2 ships) is fitted but not with Mk41 VLS, they currently have Mk29 octuple launchers.

Salihreis class (MEKO 200 Track IIB, 2 ships) has Mk41 Tactical - Baseline IV VLS.

So this package includes

Installation of Mk41 VLS to Barbaros (Track IIA) class (i.e removal of Mk29)

Modernization of Mk41 VLS of Salihreis (Track IIB) class,

Installation of Mk41 VLS to 4 ships of Gabya (FFG-7) class.

I don't think that the upgrade will be extensive as the Aussie programme.

As for the position of Mk41: There are two options:

1. In front of Mk13 (Aussie approach)

2. Instead of Mk76 (Aussie primary approach: they thought of replacing the Mk13 with a 127mm gun and 76mm with Mk41. The project seemed feasbile but abandoned because of costs).

Maybe a third one would be replacing Mk13 with Mk41, but I don't know if this is feasible.

By thw way, this work will require the modernization of Mk92 FCR's to Mk92 Mod12 standard.

The new S&H magazine is speaking of TF100 frigates which supposed to be an extended type of the Milgem corvette with airdefence capability.

Are these comming instead of the long expected TF2000 frigates or are they an interim sollution?

Orko?

There is no firm decision on the design and project model of both TF-100 and TF-2000. But several details are known such as:

-TF-100 is planned as a replacement of Yavuz (MEKO 200T-I) class frigates and of multirole design.

- 4 x TF-100's are planned to be built, and have entered service 2023, 2024, hence the "100" remark in the code (100th anniversary of the foundation of the Republic)

- TF-2000 will be an AAW frigate, most possible 4 (+2 options).

- It is not clear whether TF-100 will be a modified MilGem design or a new one.

- It hasn't been decided yet whether it will be an indigenous design or a joint development or by assistance from a foreign shipyard.

- TF-2000 is planned to enter service around 2015's.

- All these two project heavily depend on the success of MilGem project, the first ship of which will be launched on 27th September this year.
