Turkey to upgrade Pakistani F-16s
August 8, 2008 (by Asif Shamim) - After the US began easing sanctions against Pakistan, Turkey will help by assisting in the upgrade of the air forces F-16 Fighting Falcons.
Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) will upgrade 36 of Pakistan's block 15 A/B aircraft. The jets will receive a mid-life upgrade (MLU) that primarily involves replacement of avionics and structural modifications bringing them close to block 40 standards.

TAI was selected in favour of Belgium's SABCA and Netherland's Fokker who were also bidding for the contracted work. The upgrades have been given the green light by the US.

Under the deal, two or three Pakistani F-16s are expected to be upgraded at the TAI facilities in Turkey, while the rest will be upgraded in Pakistan, either at the Sargodha base or at the Pakistani Aeronautical complex, Kamra.

Good.

Lend a hand to the bastards who are harboring virtually every fucking terrorist camp making waves in the world today.

The global scene has to get on tough on Pakistan. Just my two cents.

Its an odd comment. If we dont upgrade their f-16's then belgium or finland will. Their f-16's have nothing to do with them harbouring terrorists, its their inability to control wazaristan both millitarily and politically that is responsible for that. If anything strengthening their millitary ensures the army stays in control there and it does not fall in the hands of the fundies.

Inability? More like their unwillingness to do anything.
The US should just bomb the fuck out of those tribal areas, clean them out once and for all. Some partner in the "war on terror" Pakistan has turned out to be. And if Musharafs government falls, who cares, there is already opposition parties wanting to remove him, let them take power.

Right. That's why I said the global community needs to get on tough on them. Not just us.

I'm with Zeus here. "Inability" is a gross understatement in terms of Pakistan handling inner-factions.

Their military which we're so eager to help isn't pristine either. Pakistan is the most prolific state sponsor of terror today, period. Behind their driving force of fear of India, for some four decades their army's networks of relationships with countless jihadists terrorist groups have grown and go on until today. Of course the armed forces and terrorist groups aren't in bed together but you can be damn sure they're blowing each other like no there's no tomorrow.

ALL of the motherfuckers who are bombing synagogues and killing their own citizens and causing most of the terror we hear about on TV in Turkey can all be traced back to Pakistan in some way. While their government doesn't bat a fucking eye, of course.

"Friends" like that we don't need. Neither does the world.

It's not just inability, it is downright assistance and siding with them.

They have been saying this for a while now..
Makes you wonder if America had its priorities straight, who we would really be fighting and were. My guess is Saudi Arabia and Pakistan would have been hit long ago.

Raven- 08-21-2008
Where is the proof that the Pakistani government is actively helping the terrorists?

the Pakis have been engaged in fierce fighting against Taliban fighters in Waziristan for a few years now and have lost a considerably large number of solders as a result.

the kind of terrain in which these terror camps are situated in makes it very difficult for the Paki military to totally wipe them out

NATO seems to think they are...

ISI helping Taliban: NATO

Agencies
Kabul, August 11, 2008

Pakistan’s intelligence agency is helping the Taliban to pursue an insurgency in Afghanistan that has seen a 50 per cent hike in attacks in some areas this year, the NATO commander said.

The number of foreign fighters, including Europeans, is also increasing here while NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) still lacks the soldiers it needs, US General David D McKiernan said.

“There certainly is a level of ISI complicity in the militant areas in Pakistan and organisations such as the Taliban,” the four-star general said, echoing allegations by Afghan President Hamid Karzai and others. “I can’t say to what level of leadership that goes to but there are indications of complicity on the part of ISI... to the extent that they are facilitating these militant groups that come out of the tribal areas in Pakistan.”

Pak clashes kill 6 civilians, 20 Taliban Pakistani warplanes killed at least six civilians in a tribal area bordering Afghanistan after fierce clashes in which 20 Taliban militants were killed.

Al Qaeda tape criticises Pervez
In a message believed to be from Al Qaeda’s No 2 leader, Ayman al-Zawahri claimed Pakistan is now “virtually ruled from the American Embassy.” Al-Zawahri lists a litany of charges against Musharraf, who he says has betrayed Muslims by supporting the US after the September 11, 2001 attacks.

Pakistans intelligence service is aiding them, no the Pakistani government of former President Musharaff, who was seen as an American puppet for his "support" to the US.
Musharaf might have been a dictator, but the alternative to him was islamists. Lesser of the two evils. Who knows whats going on now though.
