Cyprus president's aide walks out of meeting

Famagusta Gazette 29.AUG.08
Greek Cypriot top aide to the president has walked out of a meeting with his Turkish Cypriot interlocutor after he was told that the Turkish Cypriot regime will not allow Greek Cypriot pilgrims access to a Turkish occupied church to pray.

Presidential Commissioner George Iacovou walked out of the meeting with Ozdil Nami, advisor to Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat, after the UN Secretary General`s Special Representative in Cyprus Taye Brook Zerihoun announced the Turkish Cypriot decision to refuse Kato Pyrgos village citizens permission to pass through Limnitis on an organised pilgrimage to Saint Mamas.

Iacovou said,"this of course is sad news"` and described it as a "provocative decision," adding that he decided he could not continue his scheduled meeting with Nami and walked out.

Asked if this was a bad omen in view of the commencement of direct negotiations between the leaders of the two communities on September 3, Iacovou said, "we must keep calm."

He added that President of the Republic Demetris Christofias has been informed of the developments. - (KYPE)

Pyrgos residents threaten to block road in checkpoint delay pro-*test*-('")
RESIDENTS of Pyrgos yesterday threatened a blockade to prevent Turkish Cypriots crossing to Kokkina this year unless Greek Cypriots are allowed to use the same road for their annual pilgrimage to Ayios Mammas church in occupied Morphou.

The message was clear from Costas Michaelides, the community leader of Pyrgos, one of the most north-westerly points on the island. If Greek Cypriots were not allowed to cross, Turkish Cypriots would also be stopped, he said after a meeting with Presidential Commissioner George Iacovou yesterday.

Peaceful pro-*test*-('") as Turkish Cypriots cross Limnitis for memorial
OVER 1,000 Turkish Cypriots in 58 buses crossed through Limnitis yesterday to the former Kokkina enclave to mark the anniversary of what they term a victory over Greek Cypriots in 1964, when Turkey carried out an aerial bombardment of the area.

Some 300 Greek Cypriots from Kato Pyrgos staged a peaceful pro-*test*-('") at the same time. The held up banners saying “Freedom of movement for all Cypriots” and “Limnitis crossing for peace”.
.... Greek Cypriots are aggrieved that Turkish Cypriots are allowed to cross at Limnitis while they are still waiting for the Turkish side to give them permission to cross through the same road to attend a church service in Morphou next month.

The Turkish side said if there are no ‘technical problems’, the pilgrims could cross next month.

The Pyrgos residents had planned to block the road yesterday but were talked out of it by the government and the Church in the longer term interests of having the Limnitis crossing opened permanently. It is not ready to become an ‘official’ crossing point yet, even though Turkish Cypriots have been let through in the past two years. Previously they had to visit Kokkina by boat.

This is actually something that Nike has a point in. Our ruling politicians both in Greece and Cyprus keep trying to appease Turkey, and find solutions with bullshit "peace and friendship" malakies, but have yet to realise after so many years, Turkey isn't interested in this shit, they don't understand that sort of language, the only language they understand is a missile up the ass of their pilots.
We will probably learn the hard way after some more damage is done, not to trust our eastern neighbour.

Cultural anthropologists always say that a given society can only think in its own terms and concepts and transpose these concepts to other societies(when analyzing them). So Greeks cannot understand truly how sinister modern Turkey and modern Turkish society is, because the average Greek does not know the ethos of the Turkish state and the concepts of Turkish/Islamic society.

In another thread, a Greek said essentially she visited Turkey as a tourist and loved it, but visiting as a tourist tells nothing. Every country that promotes tourism is gonna treat its tourists well. Anyone who cares to actually inform themselves knows that Turkey treats its internal Greek minority badly to compel them to immigrate and this has succeeded wonderfully. This is the real litmus -*test*-('"), how Turkey actually treats the Greek citiziens it owes something to, not what some clueless Greek said about visiting Turkey and "the Turks smiled at her"(she never said this, but I am adding it for comical value and to ridicule her position).

It is time to move past the Greek leftist stereotypes of what Turkey is and how modern Turks act and actually examine the evidence at hand:

The above says it all.

The Cypriot government(majority Greek Cypriot) gives TC's EU passports, thousands of them work in the South, the TRNC regime is given free electricity, all this and for what?

For Turkish Cypriots to piss and laugh in your faces? So Greek Cypriots can visit the North as tourists to their former homes?

Let a renowned Greek leftist give his leftist stereotype of Turks:

QUOTE ("Great leader of Greek Stalinist-Leninists @ Mikis Theodorakis")

At this point, I should call to mind that from the very first moment, when we founded the first committee of Greek-Turkish friendship in 1986 in Istanbul we underlined that it was not our job to replace the role of governments. We departed from the position that the ordinary people from both sides had nothing to share. Besides whichever criteria we use to examine the issue, the two peoples have no outstanding issues separating them. Neither the Greek nor the Turkish people have any claims to the detriment of the other. This is the reality.

Greek leftists of Cyprus, do you have thoughts to share about 1,000 Turkish Cypriots crossing to celebrate the napalming of your people? Does this constituent a "detriment" and show that there are actually outstanding issues seperating the two peoples?

The extreme leftism of modern Greece and Greek Cypriots(or Cypriot Cypriots, lol) cripples them from forming a proper view of Turkey/Turkish Cypriots and their intentions towards them.

haha Ravioli woman.

It's this kind of attitude from so many Greek and Turkish sources that makes me want to wash my hands of the entire region and move to Finnish village where I can fish in clear rivers and take walks in silent forests with 2 big dogs.

But I can unfortunately never totally detatch myself what wanting to offer a bit of an alternative train of thought to the entire simple-minded hate-mess Greeks and Turks embroil themselves in. Quite frankly it's estranged me from the Turkish side I used to be so proud in, and if I were half Greek I'm sure I'd have become estranged from that too.

Shame my family has decided to settle here really. greekturkish/paperbag.gif
