I don't think he supports baathist or kemalist ideology but rather observes that in the middle east its as close you're going to get to a democracy for now. I think I would have to agree with him in regard to Iraq, Egypt and Syria. I don't agree with him in regard to Turkey. Turkish democracy is closer to western democracy. We have the same old suspects running the country, but at least they are taking turns.
