Modern day Robin Hoods hit Greece

In Greece, a group of modern day Robin Hoods has held-up a supermarket and distributed food to the public.

It is the la-*test*-('") in a wave of raids by the group, provoked by soaring consumer prices.

Police say about 20 unarmed people carried out the heist in the northern city of Thesaaloniki.

In each of the robberies, the group takes packets of pasta, rice, and cartons of milk, which they leave in the middle of the street for people to collect.

They have never stolen money or hurt anyone.

It's classic tokenism whose effect will be nill. But the symbolism ain't bad, and it's a lot better than those young punks who go around destroying private property in the name of the masses.

I used to work with an Indian Muslim guy from South Africa, who was a teenager prior to the end of apartheid. What he and his "coloured" mates would do was go into a white-owned supermarket, grab a trolly each and fill it up with food stuff. Then they would dump them like that in aisles and walk out, leave the staff to put everything back.

It was a kind of non-violent pro-*test*-('") that didn't bring down aparheid, but it was their way of fighting the regime. Still honourable in its own way.
