YEREVAN (YERKIR) - Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian referred to the subject during the session of the OSCE Permanent Council. Minister Oskanian said the document being negotiated at present is a very realistic one and Armenia is hopeful that Azerbaijan will not retreat and an agreement will be achieved.

The parties to Karabakh conflict have never been so close to resolution,” Oskanian said, PanARMENIAN.Net reported.

Karabakh: agreement on deployment of peacekeepers in security belt achieved?

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ It’s premature to speak of full success in the Nagorno Karabakh peaceful process unless agreements on all provisions of the negotiation agenda are achieved, Azeri Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov told a news conference in Baku after a meeting with the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs.

“Territorial integrity of Azerbaijan cannot be questioned. Withdrawal of Armenian troops and return of refugees to their homes are discussed at the current stage of the talks,” he said.

“The sides achieved agreement on deployment of peacekeeping forces in the security zone. There is an opinion that the peacekeeping contingent should not include the states of the region and co-chair states of the OSCE Minsk Group,” the Azeri FM said.

The most important task is “to exclude resumption of hostilities”, according to Mr Mammadyarov. He said he will follow out diplomatic ways of resolution. “It all depends,” he added, Day.az reports.

This and the Armenian genocide claims are the only obstacles to peace with the Armenians. Although I don't expect them to stop their genocide accusations, at least we can be happy that one of the issues will be solved hopefully.

If this issue is solved. We'll open the border and start trading. It's gonna be a new era between two nations. Both sides will benefit from this positive progress. greekturkish/beerchug.gif

AFAIK, over a million UN recognized Azeri refugees and more. I highly doubt Armenians will allow them to return. I hope i'm wrong.

Do you think it's wise we open our borders while Armenia doesn't recognize our official borders and territorial integrity?

Passing the border for trading will help them to realize where Turkish territory starts.

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ The Kocharian-Aliyev talks on Karabakh settlement scheduled for June 10 in Saint Petersburg will become decisive, Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian said.

“This meeting will show whether we will have real progress in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement. We should always expect serious progress from a presidential meeting,” he said.

The Minister also informed that organization of the presidential meeting is underway.

During the recent regional visit of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs Armenian President Robert Kocharian and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev gave consent to meet in Saint Petersburg.

I don't think the Russians will be too keen on that idea...you remember them, the reason why you didn't intervene in the first place.

but if you rebuild that bridge you can then blow it up again as another "we'll show them"
