In my father's village there was a long vendetta between the two largest clans. It went on for many generations and many people were killed. Others left the island in order to live a normal life without constant fear. Just over 100 years ago both sides had had enough. They decided to end it with marriages across the dividing line. Now nobody remembers how or why it started. I, and many others, have the blood of both families in our veins.
Those marriages were forced and perhaps unhappy, I don't really know. But they required submission not courage. Your parents got together across the line out of choice and that took courage and love. Respect.
