koukla, I was just trying to make a point why some of you get so irked by Greeks referring to the polis by its historic Greek name and yet will refer to Thessaloniki by it's Turkish equivalent. As for it's shorter name, it is Salonika rather then Selanik. And as for your husband...well, he is your hubby and you are a fiery one.

They are irked bec. some Greeks use it to mean they will get it back. (I don't mean any1 here) So Kaya abi it is Constantinapole when we refer to its old name yes.

Of course we all know They are the same....even old Italians call it this way - I mean Constan. and Smyrne the same.

FFS try and understand Greeks for a change. That's how we are. May it be Istanbul, Southern Italy or Afghanistan we will always say Constantinople, Magna Graecia and Bactria...just as reminder. "Once was Greek" doesn't interpret to "will be Greek again".

It's the same with words, eg mention democracy and we'll say, "do you know that is a Greek word"

And be stuck with 10 million Turks, Los M and Dome being two of them!
