...and the song was:

The Bureau - Only For Sheep

Does this count, or does it have to be something more popular, internationally known etc...? 'Cause I barely remember what happened between my littlehood (Baris Manco) and my adolescence (Cannibal Corpse, Deicide) greekturkish/bluebiggrin.gif Hmm, Scorpions may be?

From the same album:

Does it have to be pop?

The first record I ever bough by myself was Metallica's "Reload" album in cassette form at a D&R in Istanbul when I was really young. My parents were like just pick anything out...and god bless their soul they didn't know what the hell Metallica was at the time so they let me have it.

I only got it because I thought the flames on the front cover were really cool...I was 9.

Little did I know it would make me a life long rock music freak. I'd put that thing in my sister's Walkman and just go CRAZY to the first song "Fuel" on it. Kids my age were jamming to Baris Manco's children songs and I was kicking it to James and the boys.

So there are people who actually like Metallica's later days. Aahhhh the good ol'days when music was music greekturkish/oldboy.gif

When I was 13 or 14 I had my father buy me Slayer's "Hell Awaits". He didn't even look at the album. I mean, there's a song about necrophilia in it, for God's sake!!!

I grew up pretty normal though. Or, so do people say to my face greekturkish/sneaky.gif

turkkan- 08-22-2008
I think it was a single from backstreet boys 'backstreets back' greekturkish/hang.gif But to be fair i later turned to metallica with the fuel album, and then iron maiden for around 2 years much to the displeasure of my family. Then there was an unfortunate punk rock phase but finally i went back to turkish folk songs and a lot of the 70/80s songs. Now in england im starting to move into the MTV scene but still trying to maintain a grip on the turkish scene.

In 1991 or 1992, I invested my whole bayram money on GnR's "Use Your Illusion 1-2" and Nirvana's "Nevermind" albums. I also bought an Iron Maiden t-shirt with Eddie on it with the rest of my fortune.

While i was sitting on the stairs of Hayri (famous metal/rock music store), I was like the greekturkish/cool28.gif est 11 year old guy on Karanfil Street Ankara. greekturkish/laugh.gif greekturkish/laugh.gif greekturkish/laugh.gif

When I was 19, I couldnt find the nice T-Shirt style with Eddie on it so I had it pressed on a nice sexy T-shirt of my own in this Selanik avenue baskıcı.

Sob is a quite precise definition for Hayri. greekturkish/laugh.gif

Haven't been there for a decade. But seems like he's still in the business. Since i left Ankara i miss Shades and Süleyman Abi. There isn't such a place in Istanbul.

katastrof- 08-26-2008
Man, shades was awesome (although I don't know the guy personally). He used to make you copies only if the record was very rare/can't be found (when I was in college, don't know before that). He got me Wolf Hoffmann's Classical when it was first out & wasn't printed in Turkey. Was such a bliss at the time, I always remember him by that.

Hayri, of course made a whole living out of third grade copy cassetes (90s) and then CDs (later). greekturkish/gaah_opt_64.gif

Hmm, gotta go find that Hoffmann CD now.

edit: In memory of Süleyman Abi, then:
