| British mother arrested in Greece over murder of newborn 22 hours ago IRAKLION, Greece (AFP) — A young British student has been arrested on the Greek island of Crete on suspicion of killing her newly-born son shortly after giving birth in her hotel room, a local police source said. The 20-year-old Londoner and mother of two, whose name was not released, had been on holiday on the island since July 16 with two friends, the police said. On July 20 she was rushed to a local health centre with excessive bleeding after giving birth alone in her room. Staff there alerted the police who inspected her hotel room and found the dead baby wrapped in a sheet. A coroner determined that the boy was born healthy and had been smothered.
